The museum is mainly dedicated to the culture of Appenzell alpine dairy farmers and the home textile industry nestled between the magnificent Appenzell hills.

A local folklore museum? Sound a bit dull? No way! There are always live demos taking place in the museum: cheese-making in an alpine hut, weaving on a satin stitch loom, embroidery on a hand embroidery machine and a guided audio tour.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, special exhibitions that deal with (art) history or folklore are organised regularly.
