The Bären has been making history for centuries.

According to chronological reports, the Bären Gonten was built in 1602 and is the oldest building in Gonten/Appenzell. Since spring 2015, after a comprehensive renovation, the three-star superior boutique hotel Bären has shone in contemporary splendour. In 2020, the traditional house was expanded with another twelve junior suites and rooms, a spa and new seminar rooms. Now the hotel includes 25 individually and lovingly furnished rooms, junior suites and family residences in Appenzell chic. A restaurant and seminar rooms with modern design elements expand the offer: guests can enjoy simple snacks in the lounge/bar during the day or an extensive speciality dinner in the Bärestobe restaurant on the first floor. In winter, the Appenzeller Lounge is also open, a wooden chalet where cheese specialities are served in a matching ambience. The team surprises with creative, hearty and regional cuisine. The Bären Gonten is both a meeting place for locals and a cosy retreat for private guests and smaller groups or seminars. The Hotel Bären Gonten is extended with the Hotel Huus Löwen.

The Huus Löwen is located opposite the time-honoured Hotel Bären. The two houses live Appenzell tradition and modernity and celebrate passionate hospitality from the first Wöllkomm to the final Chönd zonis. This is achieved, among other things, through the collaboration with Jakob Schläpfer - wallpapers, curtains, bed linen and much more shine with the design of the traditional textile company.
